The Washington West Gallery of Photography was founded in 2018 by photojournalist Jim MacMillan to help support and promote contemporary documentary photography in Philadelphia.
His work has been honored with the Pulitzer Prize, the Bayeux Prize for War Correspondents, the National Headliner Awards and many more.
He spent many years on the staff of the Philadelphia Daily News and was one of the founders of the Philadelphia Conference of Photojournalists. He also reported from the war in Iraq for The Associated Press.
